He’ll be spending a couple of years in Europe before he is NBA ready but he sure a pick for the future. But with this pick the Spurs don’t have a backup Small Forward which everyone the Spurs predicted they would draft, a young small forward to back up Bowen.
Here are a couple of options for the spurs to do in there offseason. Bring over Luis Scola. This Argentine Olympic Gold medallist is said to be one of the best Power Forwards in the European League, a perfect back-up to Tim Duncan. He would also give Robert Horry much needed rest until the Playoffs.
Another move would be to Trade Rasho Nesterovic for a young Center and some draft picks or an expiring contract, making a lot of cap room for the Spurs.
Some teams that could use a center would be: Memphis, Atlanta, Phoenix. The off contact player the Spurs go after are Devin Brown, Robert Horry and Linton Johnson III.
But that still leaves to our back up small forward. The options the Spurs have are, playing Ginobili at shifts at small forward, hope that Linton Johnson is ready to play backup minutes, play Devin Brown at Small Forward or look to the Free Agency.
An intriguing option is DerMarr Johnson, a 6’9 shooter who has a lot of length, and can slash to the basket. He also has the height to guard players like Tracy McGrady and Rashard Lewis.
If he demands too much it may just be better off playing Ginobili at 3. Remember, resigning Glenn Robinson may even be an option. |
